Friday the 13th

Weekly reflections

Today is Friday the 13th! The second of three this year! We already had one last month and the next is in November. A special year for sure, as we typically only get 1-2 a year!

A lot of cultures carry superstitious around Friday the 13th, most considered unlucky due to a combination of biblical, mythological and historical factors.

From what I’ve found throughout my research, Friday the 13th in its modern construct is deeply rooted in colonial, patriarchal and religious systems that demonized the divine feminine while supressing pagan wisdom. Classic eh?

On Friday, October 13, 1307, the Knights Templar (a group formally known as the poor fellow-soldiers of Jesus Christ) were arrested by King Philip IV of France. King Philip IV was deeply indebted to the Templars due to his wars with England, as the Templars were greatly powerful in their military, finances, land and influence that spread across Europe. So instead of taking responsibly for his actions, he sought to eliminate the order to take their wealth. Resulting in the arrests of hundreds of these people. This act deemed Friday the 13th unlucky and unfair for a majority of religious and following societies.

Why is Friday the 13th a spiritual day?

For witches, mystics and magic-makers. This day is not one of bad luck, but the opposite. As the number 13 is a number of the divine feminine, it honors the 13 cycles of those who have a period. It honors the 13 lunar cycles of which we all connect with through our emotions and moods. The number 13 is what a typical coven group consists of!  In Tarot, the number 13th card is the death card, the card of rebirth, change, cleansing and renewal. Menstrual cycles are incredibly beautiful, cleansing and unapologetically magic! As Trans Man who no longer gets his period, I do miss and deeply respect this divine process.

So now you can understand why this deemed “unlucky” day causes pain and frustration within the spiritual community. For when we look back at the patriarchal mark. It directly stems from the makings of a lonely white mans bruised ego, who wanted power and abused others to get it. Again, classic colonial history right?

How do us witches + energy workers reclaim this energy?

We can reclaim this energy by seeing this day as a portal to our divine feminine, this is gender neutral by the way, because gender is a social construct and we don’t mess with that shit!

This day instead is honored by witches, Celtic magicians and practicing lightworkers by rituals around self love, dreaming of better, higher timelines and ultimate self abundance.

Lets gets deeper by checking out our weekly energy and journal prompts to align ourselves more! <3

Collective energy Update:

This weeks collective reading is perfect.. It made me tear up while I sat in my local coffee shop shuffling these beautiful cards. Something that is important in our modern time, no longer being afraid to shine. I spent life times hiding away, hiding my intuitive powers, shaming myself over the outer voices of patriarchal pain, and running from the only abilities that are able to heal my own soul. No man has healed these wounds, they have only created them.

Our reading leads with the Queen of Wands, a woman of action, one who sits comfortably in her power that she has worked for. She towers over the 10 of swords. The card of outer wounds, the backstabbing, deep betrayal and loss. Underneath that we have the 7 of wands, both these cards representing the outer influence, pain and abuse that was given to this Queen (You and I). She has worked for her position of comfort, though she remembers how far she has come. If you look to the left you can see the Ace of wands, a card of passion, new beginnings and true spiritual growth, taken with real action. Above that and on the Queens left shoulder she carries the Sun, the divine masculine force that drives her. As she never needed a man or a lover to complete her, she only needed herself and her own spiritual abilities.

As we venture to her right side we see the 8 of pentacles in reverse. The card of dedication and physical work. You might be feeling like the world has been working against you and no matter how much time, energy and work you put into things, you cannot reach the top. What if you aren’t meant to?

The justice card is here to express that this modern colonial world was built to cage our spirits, burden Black, Indigenous, People of colour along side Queer + Trans Communities with differing intersectionality’s. It was created to only benefit the 1%, the rich, the ego bruised assholes who only “win” by walking over, across and on top of others. Why would you want to “win” a world that obeys that logic? Instead, let us nurture our new and old world, the one that has always been. The  communities practicing in secret, the artists creating music in silence, creating art in the dark. Spiritual workers healing people with conversation and closeness instead of potions or spells. For everything we embody is this world, is made from the dark/light, peace/anger, love/hurt and accountability/justice. Everything is a mirror to itself, we cannot have light without the dark.

Justice guides us to remember that if we walk our truest path of honesty, integrity and support. All those other assholes will find their way eventually. We cannot control anyone and as my lovely father always reminds me, you are only in control of your actions/reactions, no one else’s. So Be kind to yourself in this revolution, we are embarking on deep societal change and make sure you are proud and sure of what side you lay on. For everything you put out comes back around. <3

Weekly Rituals:

This week (or whenever you read this, as everything is timeless) I invite you to breathe into yourself.

Sit in a space you feel comfortable. Anywhere really.

Take in your surroundings;

What do you see, feel, smell, hear?

What can you pick up around you energetically?

What sense of yours distracts or energizes you?

Once you are feeling comfortable, close your eyes (after reading or listening to this ; ) and breathe into your belly, one deep breathe in, all the way to your stomach. Hold that for 4 seconds. Then breathe out, when you breathe out, imagine a wave crashing over your entire body and washing away every worry, every energic pain and fear. I want you to pick 3 spots to breathe into, examples are, your belly, your arms, legs, thighs, head, ears, hands, whatever you feel called to! When I say this, I mean when you breathe in, imagine a golden thread coming into your body on each breath, then lead that tread to whatever spot you feel called to heal in your body.

Do this up to 3 times. Until you feel collected in your energy. Repeat how much you need to. I TRY (as life is about routines) to do this once or twice a day! It gets easier as you do it as well.

Journal prompts for the week:

How would you describe it, from the way you care, to the way you receive, the way you ask questions and answer them.

Example of this, my divine feminine is the one who offers me wisdom, (As everyone, no matter your gender or identity has a divine feminine/masculine) My feminine protects me from societal harm, nurtures me and allows me space to feel emotionally safe. She is pink, blue and green. I would describe her as a peach rose covered in gold dust, maybe add a cute faerie flying around her. She embodies animal spirits and safety for all who need it.
